AMEL
About
AMEL is an app for fighter pilots in training to record events while they fly using a screen of customizable buttons. When pilots are training they often participate in virtual combat or specific training missions. They need an easy way to create a log of what actions they took along with the time and location where they occurred. The main screen shows live data like speed, location, course, and altitude. Pressing a button logs an event, and events can be reviewed in the log later. Logs can be shared as PDF or text files for easy mission review.
My Experience
Working on AMEL was my first time building an app and I found the process to be really enjoyable. I love taking ideas and turning them into something concrete, and I love the freedom to create anything you can think of. The app was created with 3 of my peers as a term project for our Software Engineering course. We followed the SCRUM agile development methodology and we worked hard as a team to apply the principles we learned in class. After the semester was over I finished adding a few features, fixed some bugs, and prepared it for submission to the app store. It was a great experience to go through the process of building an app with a team and getting it published on the App Store.
